Course Descriptions

Concert Band and  Orchestra

Instrumental Music Lessons

Concert band (648) and orchestra (649) may be taken for Fine Arts credit. The Concert Band includes all members of the Band Company (CMA) as well as cadets from other units, and a substantial number of young women from CGA. Orchestra is open to all students who wish play in a string orchestra that occasionally uses added winds and percussion. Both large ensembles provide an  opportunity for the student to perform solos, and develop chamber ensembles, some of which perform off-campus. Neither course is well-suited to absolute beginning instruction, but both offer a wide range of literature studied.

Private music lessons in band and orchestra instruments (644) are offered as academic credit courses. These are open to students of every grade level. Music is selected according to ach student's skill level and background. There is an extra fee for private music lessons; however, students who enroll in concert band or  orchestra may take appropriate instrument lessons for a reduced fee. Specialized instruction in most  instruments is available from our teachers on staff, or  from adjunct instructors who come to the campus.Private music lessons are given once per week. It is expected that students will practice about three hours per week.
