Piano (and other lessons)

Private Music Lessons
John Gouwens teaches private music lessons in Piano (610), Organ (612), and Carillon (619), which are offered as credit courses. These are open to students of every grade level. Music is selected according to the skills and background of each student. An extra fee is charged for private music lessons (currently $900 per year, $225 per term). In some situations, students on financial aid may be able to obtain some assistance with these fees.

Fee Update: Effective School Year 2007-2008, the fee will raise to $1,080 per year, or $270 per term.

Organ and carillon require prior piano background and may be taken only with prior written consent of the Mr. Gouwens. Private music lessons include one lesson per week. It is expected that students will practice the equivalent of four class periods (approximately three hours) per week.

Of related interest, other faculty also teach private lessons in Voice (650) and in Band or Orchestral Instruments (course numbers vary depending on instrument involved). The expectations and fees involved are similar, but there are discounts on voice lessons for students who are in Choir as a course. (The same is true for instrument lessons for students in the related ensemble - Band, Orchestra, etc.)
