Studio Arts 3-D

Studio Art Foundation, 2-D, 666

Studio Art Foundation, 2-D students have the opportunity to explore the wide range of 2-Dimensional visual expression from the practice of art making through the study of Art History and Art Criticism. The lives and works of artists, the foundation of visual criticism, and explorations in several two-dimensional media: painting, drawing, and printmaking, will be covered in an integrated comprehensive study. This one term course meets daily.

Studio Art Foundation, 3-D, 667

Studio Art Foundation, 3-D students have the opportunity to explore the wide range of 3-Dimensional visual expression from the practice of art making through the study of Art History and Art Criticism. The lives and works of artists, the foundation of visual criticism, and explorations in three-dimensional media: both additive and subtractive sculpture will be covered in an integrated comprehensive study. This one term course meets daily.

 

Basic B&W Photography

Advanced B&W Photography

Basic Black and White Photography, 676

Basic Black and White Photography introduces the student to camera and darkroom techniques from film to final print. Photographic composition, film development, and basic black and white processing are the foundation of the course. The lives of photographers, significant historical developments in the medium, and an introduction to aesthetic critical methods will complement this study. This single term course meets daily.

Advanced Black and White Photography, 678

Advanced Black and White Photography will move beyond Basic Photography to deepen the students understanding of the photographic process. Alternative methods, advanced composition, and creative print applications will be explored. The lives of photographers, significant historical developments in the medium and an attention to aesthetic critical methods will complement this study. This single term course meets daily. Prerequisite: 676

Visual Art Portfolio Advanced VA Portfolio

Visual Art Portfolio, 686 (Juniors only with Department permission)

Visual Art Portfolio allows the student considering further study in the visual arts to concentrate on an in-depth exploration of one or two visual art media in an independent studio environment.  This class addresses the needs of the advanced student seeking a portfolio building experience geared toward college admission. Drawing will be the common connection between the students in this course. An individual plan of study will be developed for each student. Students may pursue painting, sculpture, printmaking or any other media available from their study at Culver. This one term course meets daily in the third term of each year. Prerequisite, any three Visual Art Media courses

Advanced Visual Art Portfolio, 687 (Seniors only with Department permission)

Advanced Visual Art Portfolio allows the advanced visual art student to concentrate on an in-depth exploration of one or two visual art media with an emphasis of presentation and exhibition.  This class addresses the needs of the individual student in preparing an honors or senior exhibition. Drawing will be the common connection between the students in this course. An individual plan of study will be developed for each student. The ability to work independently is an expectation of this class. This one term course meets daily in the third term of each year. Prerequisite, any three Visual Art Media courses
